ARTIST BIO

Maryellen Hacko is a multidisciplinary artist and visual communications specialist based on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. She is the founder of Meld Creative Co, a boutique, artist-led design studio partnering with community-focussed and purpose-driven organisations.

Drawn to creativity from an early age, Maryellen initially pursued a career in law, but over time, anxiety and burnout became catalysts for change—inviting her to slow down, reconnect with her Creator, and rediscover herself through the simple act of filling a blank page.

After trading a legal career for opportunities in television and magazine publishing, Maryellen began to pursue her true passion for visual communications. Since then, she has grown Meld Creative Co alongside her own artistic practice, developing a distinctive approach that blends strategic thinking with visual storytelling.

Working across branding, graphic design, illustration, writing and social media, Maryellen helps organisations communicate with clarity, beauty and cultural relevance—without the cost, delay or detachment of a large agency. Her work is grounded in the belief that design is not decoration, but a powerful tool for connection and meaning.

Deeply inspired by the native flora and fauna of Australia’s coastline, as well as the embodied experience of finding worth beyond productivity, Maryellen’s creative practice invites attentiveness to the everyday. Through colour, words and form—most recently in her debut poetry collection Slowliloquies—she seeks to remind others that life is a precious gift meant to be noticed, received and wholeheartedly celebrated.

When she’s not creating for clients, Maryellen can be found painting in her home studio, writing poetry, or spending quality time with her husband and twin boys.
